WEBCAST TO FEATURE UPDATE ON PENNSYLVANIA
DROUGHT CONDITIONS
Water suppliers, local government officials urged to participate
HARRISBURG (Jan. 24) On behalf of Gov. Mark Schweiker,
Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary David
E. Hess today encouraged local government officials, water supplier
representatives, agricultural and industry representatives,
and citizens to participate in a live webcast conference on
Pennsylvanias drought conditions.
The webcast, accessible at www.GreenWorks.tv,
is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28. DEP is hosting
the webcast in partnership with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management
Agency, the Department of Agriculture, the Pennsylvania Municipal
Authorities Association, the Pennsylvania Section of the American
Water Works Association, the Landscape and Nursery Association and
GreenWorks.tv.
Sixty-two of Pennsylvanias 67 counties remain under a
drought watch or warning, Secretary Hess said. As drought
conditions continue to deteriorate, this is an important time for
water providers and users to begin thinking about the steps they will
need to take if a drought emergency is declared.
The purpose of the conference will be to discuss current drought conditions,
and what would be required under Pennsylvanias new drought regulations
if the state moves into a drought emergency.
In addition to the webcast, participants may view the conference
in the auditorium of the Rachel Carson State Office Building, 400
Market St., Harrisburg, and in the conference rooms at each of DEPs
six regional offices:
- DEP Southeast Regional Office
Lee Park, Suite 6010, 555 North Lane, Conshohocken, Montgomery
County;
- DEP Southcentral Regional Office
909 Elmerton Ave., Harrisburg, Dauphin County;
- DEP Southwest Regional Office
400 Waterfront Dr., Pittsburgh, Allegheny County;
